FIFA World Cup 2026 in New York: How the Transportation Really Worked

The World Cup came to MetLife Stadium in June and July 2026. Here is what match-day transportation looked like, what worked for fan groups and hospitality parties, and what to book for the next big MetLife event.

The World Cup Came to New York

The 2026 FIFA World Cup, the first hosted jointly by the United States, Mexico and Canada, brought the world's most popular sport to MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, from June to July 2026. MetLife hosted group-stage matches, knockout rounds and the final, and the New York area saw the heaviest event transportation demand in its history.

MetLife Stadium: What We Learned

MetLife seats 82,500 and sits in the Meadowlands, about 8 miles west of Midtown Manhattan. The distance is short, but the road network is not built for 80,000 people arriving at once:

  • Road access: Route 3, the NJ Turnpike Western Spur and Route 120 carried the traffic. On match days our chauffeurs left Manhattan earlier than for an NFL game and used staging points away from the main lots.
  • Parking: personal vehicle access was reduced for the tournament, so organized transportation and pre-arranged drop-offs made the difference.
  • NJ Transit: rail service to Meadowlands Station ran at capacity and was extremely crowded after every match.
  • Professional car service: designated vehicle drop-off and pickup areas near the stadium gave our groups the most comfortable way in and out.

Airport Transfers for International Fans

Hundreds of thousands of visitors flew in through JFK, Newark and LaGuardia. We ran flight-tracked transfers with meet and greet for groups arriving on different flights. Newark was the practical choice for stadium access, JFK for Manhattan hotels, and LaGuardia for the shortest ride to Midtown.

What the Match-Day Packages Looked Like

  • Hotel-to-stadium round trip: pickup at a Manhattan, Brooklyn or New Jersey hotel, transport to MetLife, and a guaranteed post-match pickup.
  • Group packages: Sprinter vans for 10 to 14, mini buses for 23 to 27, and coach buses for 36 to 56 fans, hospitality groups and organized tours.
  • Multi-match packages: a dedicated chauffeur and vehicle for groups attending several matches.

Beyond the Stadium

Fan zones, viewing parties and post-match dinners kept our sedans and SUVs busy in Manhattan between matches, and many groups combined a match with a private city tour on their free day.
